This chapter presents an interview with Ya'akov Silberberg, one of the Sonderkommando prisoners forced by the Nazis to aid with the disposal of Jews killed in gas chambers in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during the Holocaust. Ya'akov's work in the Sonderkommando made him lose his faith in God. In this interview, he talks about his childhood and teenage years in Zakroczym, Poland, where he was born, as well as his family before he was transported to the camp. Ya'akov also explains how he was selected for the Sonderkommando and describes his work at the crematorium.
