Stalin and the Lubianka
This chapter shows that the history of the Soviet political police is connected to the history of Iosif Stalin and his rule. During the 1920s and 1930s, the jurisdiction and functions of political police expanded in several areas. These areas include social order in urban areas, forced labor policing and ethnic cleansing, and border protection. This book looks at the story about police and repression. It also describes the history of Stalinism and the history of the Soviet Union in the first half of the twentieth century.
