The field of Chicana/o history is rapidly developing in the study of important figures through biography, a relatively ignored topic until recent years, and in more fully appreciating episodes of community activism before the Chicano Movement. Of particular recent interest in Chicana/o historiography is the re-evaluation of the Chicano Movement in the late 1960s and 1970s as well as the contributions of the “Mexican American Generation.” The study of George I. Sánchez adds to both of these interpretive directions by complicating the generational theme in Chicana/o history as well as by demonstrating surprising links and connections with other movements and ideas in U.S. history.
