This chapter explains the nature and arrival of Kabbalistic symbols that are different from the dominant scholarship. It considers the Eco's theory of symbolism as a textual code, and studies the scholarly view of the nature of the symbol within Kabbalah. This is then followed by discussions on the circumstances of the symbol's emergence, symbolism in Kabbalistic discourse, and the symbol of the maiden within the hidden layer of the Torah. The next sections center on the Zohar, specifically the remythologization of the biblical text, sexual polarization, and symbolism in Zoharic literature.
Keywords: Kabbalistic symbols, Eco's theory of symbolism, symbolism, Kabbalah, maiden, Torah, Zohar, sexual polarization, Zoharic literature
