Torah Study and Mystical Experiences in Jewish Mysticism
Torah Study and Mystical Experiences in Jewish Mysticism
This chapter turns to the mystical aspects that are connected to a study of biblical text, although it focuses on interpretation. It reveals that secrets are considered as an important part of life and of numerous religious systems. The next section talks about the assumption that the discovery of secrets within a canonical text and the subsequent disclosure entail an experiential dimension of understanding the text. The connection between secrets and mystical experience is discussed, along with the exclusion of the divine from the interpretation process. The last two topics in this chapter address the hermeneutical aspects of Hasidism and Kabbalah, and the eroticism of the approach to the Torah.
