In this chapter, Maya Plisetskaya recounts her debut for Raymonda, which proved to be a sensational success. In the last year of World War II, the Komsomol office in Russia often sent her, along with many other theater artists, to perform at military hospitals. She was then chosen to dance Raymonda, with Elizaveta Pavlovna Gerdt as the rehearsal coach. Her partners were Alexander Rudenko as Jean de Brienne and Pyotr Gusev as Abderkhman. The ballet was conducted by Yuri Fyodorovich Fayer.
