This chapter paints a satirical picture of medical ethics in the USA through the experience of Ellsworth Joad. Ellsworth is staff ethicist to the crack Medicalization Committee, which is also part of a national organization tasked with considering how the discovery of new diseases could be most beneficial. He attended a meeting where researchers announce the discovery of a gene that has a virulent mutant form that correlates with political activity.
