This concluding chapter reviews the self-determination theory approach and principles, and how these promote health motivation works. It emphasizes that self-determination theory agrees with other primary approaches to behavioral change, which include the stages of change model and motivational interviewing. This chapter summarizes the two main attributes that clinicians would need to have to provide successful recommendations to their clients, and presents the possible technical knowledge that training programs within the mental and medical health disciplines can give to clinicians.
