This chapter examines the link between parents' actions and accountability from the perspective of public schools. It examines the impacts of increasing competition on public schools in Milwaukee and describes how public schools respond to competitive pressure. The chapter utilizes the data obtained from the Milwaukee public school teacher survey to examine the relations between competition and changes in teachers' work lives.
