This chapter presents the text of Lamed Shapiro's short fiction titled Eating Days. It explains that the story is about the little town of Zagorie-Vitrok, which the Jews have shortened to Zahoria. The violence in this story occurs within the privacy of home and school, and young people must leave in order to find a meaningful life.
