This chapter examines the ancestry of Maud Faulkner. It explains the Maud's Oldham-Allen ancestors either arrived on the Mayflower or could trace their lineage to the Swiss baron de Graffenried, founder of Bern and scion of North Carolina royalty. It also considers the story of Maud's mother Lelia Butler and how she came to marry the fun-loving Charlie Butler, who became the infamous felon and dad.
