The Vehicle of Progress
The Vehicle of Progress
This chapter discusses the progress of Eduardo in Madrid. In the mid-1950s, Eduardo had about 150 or so workers under his command in Villaverde. Although that was a modest number compared with those who would later work there, that made him head of an enterprise larger than anything which existed in Orense, where the biggest factory, that of Malingre, probably had no more than fifty workers in the 1950s. The plant was then still about 4,000 square yards in size. It was made up of about 15 or 20 two-story buildings, each about two hundred square yards large, made from prefabricated blocks with concrete windows. It should be noted that the board of Barreiros Diesel agreed to buy another 16,000 square yards to house a new shed of more than 1,100 square yards.
