Challenges Facing Greater Yellowstone
Challenges Facing Greater Yellowstone
This chapter focuses on the challenges facing greater Yellowstone. These challenges can be expressed in terms of a social process model by which leaders can understand these problems in context in more functional terms; a decision process model that can help them ensure that decision making is carried out more effectively; and the roles, responsibilities, and requirements of leadership which encourage leaders to be contextual. The Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee (GYCC) is in an authoritative position among greater Yellowstone's leaders and organizations to address the multitude of problems on all levels and to demonstrate real leadership. Its leadership task is not only to participate in social and decision processes but also to develop new levels of effectiveness in serving common interests. Thus, the GYCC has a rare opportunity to create a policy model for managing natural resources that can revitalize conservation efforts for large-scale systems everywhere.
