This chapter explains that as the business community's influence infrastructure grew and matured, it had a profound impact on public policy. The pro-business activist groups demonstrated that consumer and environmental groups did not have a monopoly on defining the public good. At the heart of the business community's strategy for determining the content of news and political commentary was a sustained effort to coordinate a single message on any given issue across many media outlets owned or managed by people who would adopt a business-friendly perspective. A pro-business echo chamber gave think tank pundits and conservative academics easy access to op-ed pages, political talk shows, and news programming that other academic scholars lacked.
