Lenin's Jewish Question

Yohanan Petrovsky-Shtern

Yale University Press

This chapter examines how Vladimir Lenin's Jewish connection was exposed. It describes the Judaization of Lenin by post-communist far right and the rise of Russian racism and xenophobia masterminded by Mikahil Menshikov, a member of far-right xenophobic and ultramonarchist party Union of the Russian People (URP). It also discusses the surge of racist storytelling following the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and the shift of Russian people from troubled Marxism toward a national and ethnocentric worldview.

Keywords:   Vladimir Lenin, Jewish connection, Judaization, post-communist far right, Mikhail Menshikov, URP, USSR, ethnocentric worldview
