A Public School Man
A Public School Man
C. K. Scott Moncrieff became a close friend of Wilfred Owen and an important part in his life. Born in Scotland, Scott was four years older than Owen. One thing Owen and Moncrieff had in common was they were both fans of Alec Waugh’s The Loom of Youth, a best-selling novel about a teenager who adores his school. Like Waugh, Owen was genuinely in love with the public school as a place—a place to escape to in the imagination.
