This chapter describes how it feels actually to gather together information from the archival documents. Although this mode of research may appear old fashioned and out of place in today's technical world, the allure of handling such real-life documents is still strong. The task is arduous but ultimately very rewarding. Archival research starts off slowly and steadily through banal manual tasks to which one rarely gives much thought. Nonetheless, in doing these tasks, a new object is created, a new form of knowledge takes shape, and a new “archive” emerges.
