This chapter focuses on Thesiger's campaigns in the Ninth Cape Frontier War. Despite launching large-scale offensives against Ngqika, Ndlambe forces, and the amaXhosa in the Lotutu bush, Thesiger was unsuccessful. According to Crealock, Thesiger's operation was becoming rather like a rat hunt.
