Led by Andreis Mothibi, many Batlhaping were declaring that the British had unjustly encroached on their lands and that they would resist by fighting. This chapter discusses Major Lanyon's campaign to suppress the rebels. In Warren's report after an encounter in late June, he stated that the enemy engaged with a greater fixity of purpose, far greater knowledge of military tactics, and more determined resistance than the amaXhosa had.
